The Southern Maryland Senators fell to the DC Grays 8-1 on a scorching Saturday afternoon.
Five scoreless innings went by before either team recorded a run. In the top of the sixth inning, right fielder Michael Lavanga scored the first run after pitcher Ty Harris let up a base hit. Soon after, center fielder Ellis Reid hit a single, allowing first baseman Joey Wilga to reach home, scoring 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Senators earned their only run of the game, as center fielder Logan Tribble hit a solo home run to left field.
After that, it was all DC, as they scored four runs in the seventh and two in the ninth after third baseman Manoah Chapman hit a two-run homer, resulting in the 8-1 loss.
Southern Maryland will return Sunday afternoon to take on the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts at 1:00 PM.
