Senators Win Consecutive Games for the First Time All Season!
Winning two in a row has been challenging for the Southern Maryland Senators all season. But that changed yesterday, as left fielder Nathan Brewer hit the game-winning RBI double in the tenth inning to lift the Senators to victory against the Metro South County Braves 8-7.
The Braves struck first in the third inning. Pitcher Jacob Whiteman allowed the Braves to load the bases, then after, walked first baseman Katcher Halligan to get them on the board. They were not done, as designated hitter Jaden Collura hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring second baseman Jaime Laskofski.
But the Senators came charging back. Brewer blasted a home run to left field, and soon after, third baseman Mikey Guy hit an RBI single to left field, scoring designated hitter Carter Groen and tying the game.
In the fourth, Southern Maryland was able to take the lead and double it. Brewer hit an RBI single, scoring catcher Braeden Purser-Eber, and right fielder Logan Tribble scored on a wild pitch.
The Senators faced trouble in the sixth inning. The Braves tied the game after Laskofski and third baseman Dillon Can hit an RBI double to left field. Soon after, Tribble scored again off a wild pitch, allowing the Senators to lead by one.
The Braves came fighting back in the eighth, eventually taking the lead after a pass ball, an error, and an RBI double hit by Halligan.
Down by two, second baseman Ty Smolinski and right fielder Quinn Allen were able to get on base in the bottom of the eighth. After an error by the Braves, both scored, tying the game.
The game went into extra innings after still being tied. Allen was able to get on base after a walk. Brewer came up to the plate, hitting the game-winning RBI double to center field, allowing Allen to score and the Senators to win 8-7.
This win marks the first time the Senators have won back-to-back games. They will return on the road on Wednesday, July 10th, at 7:00 PM, when they face the Cropdusters.
