Almost a year ago, the Southern Maryland Senators and the Cropdusters faced one another in the playoffs, with the Cropdusters coming out on top 8-0. This season, Southern Maryland was able to flip the script and beat the Cropdusters 14-4 on Saturday night. 

 

The Senators got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first inning. With bases loaded, catcher Nate McHugh advanced to first on a walk, scoring center fielder Logan Tribble. 

 

Then, in the second, Southern Maryland scored four runs. First, both shortstop Sylas Boris and second baseman Mike Sweeney were able to advance off a wild pitch to second and third, then Boris came home after Tribble hit an RBI single to right field. Soon after, left fielder Nathan Brewer blasted a two-run RBI triple, scoring Sweeney and Tribble.

 

That was not all, as right fielder Carter Groen hit a sacrifice fly to score Brewer, making the score 5-0 after two innings. 

 

The Cropdusters were able to get on the board in the third, as an error by Boris scored shortstop Carter Hinds. 

 

But the Senators kept striking back; with bases loaded, Tribble advanced to first off a walk, scoring third baseman Mikey Guy. Soon after, Brewer hit a groundout to score Boris.

With the Cropdusters earning another run in the fifth, the sixth inning got everyone on their feet. 

 

First baseman Ian Kennedy blasted a home run to left field. Soon after, Guy hit an RBI single, scoring McHugh.

 

The eighth inning was productive for both teams. Second baseman Anthony Swenda hit a home run, adding another run for the Cropdusters, while the Senators added five more runs. 

 

McHugh hit an RBI double to score Kennedy. Then pinch hitter Kydese Queen hit a groundout to score McHugh home. Three more runs were then scored by Tribble, Boris, and Guy.

 

Even though the Cropdusters put up one more run in the top of the ninth, it was not enough, as they fell to the Senators 14-4.

 

As the Cropdusters season is over, the Senators season continues. They will begin their best-of-three series against the Alexandria Aces on Sunday at 6:30 PM at Frank Mann Field.
