After their first playoff win, the Southern Maryland Senators were on an all-time high. Coming into this game against the Alexandria Aces, they were able to dominate early. But a late comeback in the ninth inning was too late for the Aces, securing Southern Maryland the win 4-3.
In the top of the fourth, right fielder Carter Groen slammed a home run, giving the Senators a 1-0 lead.
Two innings later, shortstop Sylas Boris and center fielder Logan Tribble were able to get on base. Then left fielder Nathan Brewer stepped up to bat and blasted a three-run home run to extend the Senators lead to 4-0.
Everything was going right for Southern Maryland until it was not. In the bottom of the ninth, pitcher Griffin Seibel walked right fielder Tim Nicholson before being pulled for pitcher Alex Angelidis.
Angelidis then allowed two balks from shortstop JP Peltier and Nicholson to score. He was pulled after first baseman Riley DeCandido scored.
Pitcher Ty Harris finished the game, securing Southern Maryland's win 4-3. The Senators will be back at home Monday night for game two of the series, starting at 7:00 PM.
