Senators Stay Hot After A 6-3 Win Over the Cropdusters

Eight in a row! With a 6-3 win over the Olney Cropdusters, the Southern Maryland Senators have now won their past eight games.

After not playing for over a week with their last game being the comeback 9-8 win against the Alexandria Aces, the Senators come back with a bang as they beat the Cropdusters 6-3. Due to a late eighth-inning rally, the Senators have an 8-1 record through the young season.

Back home at Regency Furniture Stadium, the Senators picked up right where they left off. They scored one run in the first to gain the early lead.

Nick Flores (VCU) led off the game with a single and worked his way to third base by stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. That allowed first baseman Steven Kraus (Binghamton) to knock him in with a single.

The Senators held their lead until the top of the third when the Cropduster were able to score one run off of starting pitcher Aiden Milburn (Binghamton). Then in the fifth inning, the Cropduster tacked two more on.

However, Southern Maryland wouldn't go down so quickly. They responded in the bottom of the inning with one run of their own. Flores doubled to left field, scoring Dawson Smail (Xavier) from third after the right fielder stole two bases to get there.

The score would remain 3-2 until the eighth inning when the Senators were able to put across four runs to take back the lead.

Leading off the inning, Flores singled, continuing his magnificent day at the plate. Flores ended the game going 3-4 with two singles and a double. After MJ Phillips (Towson) walked, one of the three newest additions to the Senators, Alex Martin (Gulf Coast CC), stepped up to the plate. On a 2-1 count, Martin sent one in the left center gap, scoring both Flores and Phillips to give the Senators a one-run lead, but that wasn't enough for Scott Middleton’s team. They scored two more runs when Smail walked with the bases loaded, sending Martin home, and when a passed ball scored Lucas Grantham (Georgia State).

Bryce Harder (Wofford) held things down on the mound in the later innings for the Senators, allowing zero runs and hits, recording five strikeouts. Harder got the win while Aiden Miller (Shepard) got the save after shutting things down in the top of the ninth and preserving the Senators' 6-3 lead.

The Southern Maryland Senators stay at the top of the South Division Standings as well as the whole Cal Ripken league with their win over the Cropdusters. Their next game is on June 21st against the Metro South County Braves, marking the second game of their seven-game home stretch.
