The Senators Take Their Third Loss After Falling To The Thunderbolts 5-1
6/25/2025by Grace Morris

The fifth game of the Southern Maryland Senators' seven-game home stretch ended with a 5-1 loss to the Silver-Spring Takoma Thunderbolts. Nothing seemed to go right for the Senators as they were defeated, scoring one run, which is the lowest number of runs in a game they have ever been held to this season.

Several instances contributed to the Senators' third loss of 2025, but none were more prominent than their inability to score runners who had managed to get on base. Southern Maryland had an equal amount of hits compared to the Thunderbolts; however, they struggled to bring the baserunners across the plate.

It was a hot game, and it got off on a poor start when the Thunderbolts scored one in the first and then three in the second.

Pitching was the highlight of the game for Southern Maryland. Once the Senators' starting pitcher came out of the game in the second inning, the bullpen did well in holding the Thunderbolts for quite a while, until the ninth inning when they tallied one more run. Collectively, the three relievers Scott Middleton used —Michael Walsh (VCU), Nate Berzonski (Mt. St. Mary’s), and Bryce Harder (Wofford)—allowed four hits, one run, and struck out eight batters throughout seven and one-third innings.

While pitching found their groove, the offensive side struggled in that department. The Senators' one run they scored came in the sixth when Adam Troch (Duke) doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a Steven Kraus (Binghamton) double.

Other than the sixth, the Senators were unable to bring around their baserunners, leaving at least one person on base nearly every inning.

The Senators return home Wednesday to play the D.C. Grays at 7:00PM.
