Senators Win First Playoff Game of 2025 On A Logan Tribble Walk-Off
7/24/2025by Grace Morris

The playoff game between the Southern Maryland Senators and the D.C. Grays was certainly a nail-biter. In a win-or-go-home contest, both teams brought out their best for the battle to get into the League Championship Series (LCS) semifinals, with the Senators ultimately coming out on top 3-2.

Southern Maryland was considered the home team, despite the game being held at the Grays' stadium.

It was a pitchers' duel all game. For the Senators, Scott Middleton put his ace Nick Wimberly (FAU) on the mound, counting on the right-hander to start in the playoffs. Wimberly went through five innings, only allowing one run and striking out six.

The Senators struck first in the second inning. Chet Bowling (Winthrop), who has been battling an injury for weeks, led off the inning with a double. After working his way around the bases, he scored on a passed ball.

That set the tone for the Senators, and even though the Grays responded in the third, Southern Maryland fired back with another run of their own.

Adam Troch (Duke) began the inning and hit a double, putting himself in scoring position. After stealing third, Troch was sent home when Steven Kraus (Binghamton) hit a line drive single to right field.

2-1 was the score for the next two innings until the Grays scored another run in the sixth off Diego Barrett (North Carolina A&T). However, Barrett still pitched well as he struck out four of the nine batters he faced.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, Michael Walsh (VCU) came into pitch to keep the score tied. Walsh allowed no runs through his two and one-third innings of work.

In the bottom of the ninth with two outs and Nick Flores (VCU) on first, Logan Tribble (Wofford) came up to bat. After working a three-two count, he was able to hit a walk-off RBI double, scoring Flores and keeping the Senators' season alive.

The Senators continue their playoff run on July 23rd, with the first game of three against their former LCS Championship opponent, the Bethesda Big Train, in the LCS semifinals, as they seek to advance further in the postseason and win it all this year.
