The Senators fought hard, but came up short in their season opener against the Grays, losing 8-4.
The first game of the Senators season got off to a shaky start. Ethan Adams (Georgia State) got the start, but walked four batters in the 1st inning, leading to the Senators facing an early 1-0 deficit. He got out of the jam by striking out the final two batters of the inning.
After a run scored and three straight batters reached to begin the top of the 3rd, Adams was pulled and Logan Harelson (Millersville) came in to pitch. He got out of the jam by striking out the side.
The Grays tacked on 2 more runs in the 4th, but the Senators scored 1 of their own when Yenli Nolasco (Georgia State) hit a hard grounder to the Grays second basemen that was too hot to handle, allowing Kieran Kehoe (Iona) to score.
In the fifth inning the Senators picked up where they left off and continued the scoring. An RBI double from James Layman (Wofford) and RBI groundout from Kai Lwin (FAU) cut the deficit to one, then James Carlson (Youngstown State) tied the game with a solo shot.
The momentum vanquished in the next inning when the Grays took the lead back by stringing together 6 hits to score 4 more runs. Neither team scored after this inning leading to a final score of 8-4.
This was game one of a three game homestand this week and the Senators will look to get their first win of the season tomorrow against the Braves.
