The Senators took down the Giants 8-6 in game 1 of a 3 game homestand
The Senators struck first in the bottom of the second. Jackson Hays (Yale) led off the inning with a single and James Layman (Xavier) followed that up with a 2 run homer, his first of the season. The Senators tacked on one more run via a Chase Fulford (Binghamton) RBI single to give the Senators a 3-0 lead.
In the Top of the fourth the Giants started to fight back. A single and 2 wild pitches put a man on 3rd base for the Giants. An RBI single put them on the board and made it a 2 run game.
The Senators followed this up 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th. 3 straight hits including an RBI double from Fulford knocked out the Giants starter and made it 4-1. Braylen Gonzalez (Binghamton) added another run with a sac fly to extend the Senator lead to 4 runs.
With 2 outs in the fifth inning the Giants drew a walk and stole second base. They capitalized with a runner in scoring position by hitting an RBI single to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
In the Bottom of the seventh the Senators added a few insurance runs. Joey Todd (Richard Bland) walked and Jackson Hays followed this up with a 2 run homer to make it 7-2. Then James Layman walked, stole 2 bases and was then brought home via a RBI single by Kai Lwin (Florida Atlantic)
The Giants scored 4 runs in the top of the ninth, but thanks to the insurance runs gained in the seventh by the Senators, they held on to win with a final score of 8-6.
Starting pitcher Ryan Conrad (Villanova) got his second win of the season and he had a season high in strikeouts with 9 through 5 innings. Tyler Vandyke (Virginia Military Institute) also pitched well. He went 3 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts.
The Senators look to extend their win streak to 3 games against the Braves tomorrow at home.
