The Senators struggled against the second place Braves, cutting their first place lead in the south to 4 games.
Metro South County drew first blood in the top of the 4th. Back-to-back hits and a double steal put runners in scoring position with no outs. After 2 quick outs, the Senators struggled to get off the field. A walk and 2 RBI single gave the Braves a 2-0 lead. Another single and a walk made it a 3-run ballgame, subsequently knocking Senators starter Bryce Palms (Youngstown State) out of the game. Another RBI walk and 2 RBI single made it 6-0 in favor of the Braves.
The Senators offense woke up in the bottom of the fifth. Jack Euart (Wofford) and Braylen Gonzalez (Binghamton) both drew walks and with 2 outs Cole Rhame (Richmond) hit an RBI single to put the Senators on the board 6-1. Zach Anderson (Binghamton) then reached on a dropped third strike, which also scored another run, cutting the lead to 4. Jackson Hays (Yale) and James Layman (Xavier) followed this up with RBI singles to make it a 2-run ballgame 6-4. All 10 runs scored between both teams at this point happened with 2 outs.
The Braves responded with a few more runs of their own in the next half inning. A leadoff walk put a man on, and he was brought home on a single that got by the Senators right fielder. An RBI single, walk, and another single loaded the bases and extended the Braves lead to 4 runs. The Braves then hit an RBI single and 2 RBI double to make it 11-4.
Aidan Kee (Keystone) got the final 2 outs in the top of the 6 and pitched 2 more scoreless innings afterwards. He was a bright spot in a rather lackluster day for the Senators.
The Braves added 3 more runs in the top of the ninth, bringing the game to its final score of 14-4.
The Senators will look to win their last game of the homestand against the Aces tomorrow.
